- Talk the talk – Having a deeper understanding of popular culture not only allows you speak using current lingo, but may open a conversation about a particular topic. For example: “What did you think of American Idol last night?” may be something that you would say to an individual after the popular TV airs.
- Know your Target – Popular culture influences the way company’s market product. If a show is hot, guess what becomes the next lunchbox icon.
- Market your Product – Researchers in marketing will not only take the latest fad and run it to commercial, they will also target the time slots that they know the consumer is watching. This is also influenced by popular culture and what the latest craze is.
One of the most noticeable artifacts of popular culture is the peace sign and the peace symbol. This artifact became a sign of an era and helped distinguish those that supported the Vietnam War and those who disapproved. This symbol became a national icon.
